I was busy ~ing
~하느라 바빴어요

과거에 어떤 일로 바빴다는 것을 표현할 때 사용하는 패턴입니다. 현재형 동사를 사용해서 I’m busy ~ing라고 하면 ’지금 ~하느라 바쁘다‘는 의미가 된답니다. 중요한 점은 I’m busy to + 동사 형태로는 사용하지 않는다는 점이에요. 동사에 ‘~ing’를 붙여서 busy ~ing 형태로 써야 한다는 점을 기억하세요.

Small Talk

남자: I was busy studying for my exam last night, so I went to bed late.
어제 시험공부하느라 바빠서 늦게 잤어.

여자: No wonder you look so sleepy. Did you at least get enough preparation done?
어쩐지 졸려 보이더라. 그래도 준비는 충분히 했어?

남자: Kind of, but I still feel nervous. I just hope I don’t blank out during the test.
어느 정도, 그래도 아직 걱정돼. 시험 볼 때 머리가 하얘지지만 않으면 좋겠다.


여자: I was busy cooking for my friends who are coming over.
친구들이 집에 놀러 오기로 해서 요리하느라 바빴어.

남자: Wow, that sounds like a lot of work. What did you make?
와, 엄청 고생했겠네. 뭐 만들었어?

여자: Pasta, salad, and some side dishes. I hope they like it!

남자: I was busy preparing for the ancestral ritual this morning, so I missed your call.
